The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that requires schools to serve the educational needs of eligible students with disabilities. This means that schools must provide particular services to students with disabilities that are deemed fit to assist the student with the learning process.
IEP & 504
Both a 504 Plan and an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) are intended to ensure that students with disabilities are learning in the least restrictive environment. IEP's are associated with IDEA. Section 504 Plans are associated with Civil Rights - Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Your school is required by federal law to provide these services under IDEA. Medicaid offers reimbursement for certain medically necessary services provided to students with IEP's (and certain students with 504 Plans). Your school could be receiving reimbursement dollars for services you are required to provide.
